NEW DELHI: Rescue operations continued on Tuesday to evacuate the 40 labourers trapped under the Silkyara under-construction tunnel on Chardham route in Uttarakhand even though the team of technical experts, engineers, NDRF/SDRF jawans and other agencies are facing new challenges to bring out the labourers...

These 40 labourers, who are trapped after the under-construction tunnel that collapsed on Sunday morning, belong to different states - UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand...

On Day 3 of the operation, the rescue team started carrying out horizontal drilling to insert a steel pipe of 900 mm diameter to ensure safe evacuation of the trapped labourers on the suggestions of technical experts and engineers..

In the meantime, SDRF commandant Manikant Mishra, who is camping at the tunnel site, talked to the trapped labourers, with the help of walkie-talkies and assured them of their safe evacuation..

Apart from doctors, the medicines, which might be required after safe evacuation of the labourers, ambulances and other medical equipment are also made available at the site of rescue operation...
