(ED) has been allotted a Rs 362 crore plot in Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) for its office in the city.. ) has decided to charge Rs 3.4 lakh per sq m of the 10,500 sq m permissible built-up area on the half-acre (2,200 sq m) plot...

All three buildings house other private offices too and it is difficult for the agency to keep tabs on visitors...

To be given on a lease of 80 years, the plot price was decided on the basis of the rate the last property auction fetched in BKC, which was Rs 3.4 lakh per sq m of permissible built-up area.. "There is no provision to give the property below market rates in the BKC area and hence we have levied the charges as per the rate at which a land parcel was last sold in BKC," an official said..

While the Ballard Estate offices are on rent, the Worli office is in an attached property belonging to deceased drug smuggler Iqbal Mirchi which ED had confiscated in a money laundering case.. Having a dedicated office building in BKC may help ED maintain confidentiality of its work and safeguard its documents along with attached assets..
