With new-age tech stocks grabbing eyeballs, here’s how MFs placed their bets

Mutual funds in India have enjoyed success with their holdings in certain stocks, which have seen significant appreciation in prices, according to data. At least 10 stocks have returned over 100% in the past year, with more than 50 mutual fund schemes holding these stocks. Some of the best-performing stocks include IDFC First Bank, Apollo Tyres, Equitas Small Finance Bank, Varun Beverages, and Hindustan Aeronautics. However, some brokerages have downgraded their ratings on these stocks due to concerns over valuations and limited upside potential.

The domestic fund house has bought 3.72 crore shares in Jio Financial Services. After hitting multiple lower circuits in the previous sessions, Jio Financial shares jumped nearly 4% earlier on Friday. Equity mutual funds, which attracted inflows of Rs 15,685 crore in February, bought shares of Interglobe Aviation or IndiGo, PSU stock GAIL, realty player Macrotech Developers, Tata Motors, Tech Mahindra, HDFC AMC, PVR, Indiabulls Housing Finance and Nazara Technologies.

However, this was the 26th consecutive month of inflows in the equity mutual funds.

In Wednesday's trade, MRF stock witnessed a total of 27,248 equity shares worth Rs 384.6 crore changing hands on NSE. Other than MRF's stock, Page Industries (Rs 37,770), Honeywell Automation India (Rs 37,219), 3M India (34,263) and Shree Cement (Rs 26,527) are other highest-priced stocks in India.

Meanwhile, domestic fund houses have added 3 lakh shares in Adani Transmission and further 19 lakh shares in the group's flagship entity Adani Enterprises. According to a report by ICICI Direct Research, mutual funds have also fancied Coal India and JSW Steel in the large cap space.
