The Indian Space Research Agency (ISRO) is closing in on an attempt to land a spacecraft on the moon's south pole. Here are key facts about the Chandrayaan-3 mission.

China's top scientist, Ouyang Ziyuan, has disputed India's claim of landing its Chandrayaan-3 rover near the lunar south pole, stating that the landing site was nowhere close to the pole. Ouyang said the Chandrayaan-3 was 619 kilometers away from the polar region. China's space program, according to Pang Zhihao, a Beijing-based senior space expert, has better technology and has been capable of sending orbiters and landers directly into Earth-Moon transfer orbit since 2010.

Fawad Chaudhry, the former minister of Pakistan’s Information and Broadcasting Ministry in the Imran Khan-led government, took to X to congratulate Indian scientists, people and the space community on the lunar mission.

India's space agency, ISRO, has confirmed that its lunar mission, Chandrayaan-3, is proceeding as planned. The systems are being regularly checked, and the Mission Operations Complex in Bengaluru is busy with preparations for the mission's landing. The live telecast of the landing operations will begin on August 23. Chandrayaan-3 aims to achieve a soft landing on the moon, demonstrate the rover's capabilities, and conduct scientific experiments to better understand the moon's composition. If successful, India will become the fourth country to land on the moon, after the US, Russia, and China.
