The state cabinet meeting held on October 17 decided to form a high-level committee comprising technical experts, financial experts and subject experts to examine the allotment process of Teesta Stage III, 1,200 MW project keeping in view the credibility, genuineness and technical know-how, financial solvency, of the consortium which was building the dam, he said...

The death toll from the flash flood in Sikkim's Teesta basin has risen to 22, including seven army personnel. The bodies of seven army men have been recovered, while the search for the remaining missing soldiers continues. The flash flood was triggered by a cloudburst over Lhonak Lake, causing extensive damage to the region. Over 100 people, including 15 jawans, are still missing, and thousands have been displaced. The central government has approved the release of Rs 44.8 crore in relief funds, and an Inter-Ministerial Central Team will assess the damage caused by the flood.
