As the debate over work hours rages on, Motilal Oswal Financial Services, one of the largest Indian broking and financial services firms, has rolled out a policy to switch-off from work and emails for employees beyond their fixed shift timing of 8.0/8.5.

The policy, one of the first of its kind in corporate India, is aimed at improving employee wellness and productivity and applicable to about 9,500 of its 11,000 employees, group chief HR officer Niren Srivastava told ET..

The new rule is extended to all employees from the level of senior managers and below...

To ensure effective and uniform implementation of the switch off from work policy, the broking house will shut down its email servers and employees will be logged off from sending or receiving emails, both internally and externally, after a 45-minute grace period after the shift hours that will be given to wrap up the days work...
