March downpour dampens summer special sales

Unseasonal rains and a fall in temperatures have dampened sales growth of several summer categories like beverages, ice-cream, air-conditioners and refrigerators this month after a surge in February when it looked like early onset of summer...

"While there has been a volume growth in sales led by AC and refrigerators, it is lower than the expectation due to the delayed onset of summer," said Kamal Nandi, business head at Godrej Appliances..

"However, overall, in March, there will still be over 10% growth due to good pick-up in the beginning," he said.. Summer months - from March to June - are crucial for several categories as sometimes 40-50% of their annual sales take place during this period...
