Senior Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor was drawn into a controversy after he called the October 7 Hamas attackers "terrorists" during his speech at an Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) rally..

After facing attacks from pro-Hamas groups and a section of Left activists, Shashi Tharoor on Friday said he was "bemused" to learn of the controversy caused by his remarks at the pro-Palestine rally on October 27..

"I am somewhat bemused to learn of the attacks on me by those who, out of a 32-minute speech, have chosen to dwell on the 25 seconds in which I denounced the terrorist attacks of October 7 that triggered the current cycle of violence and disproportionate retribution," Shashi Tharoor said, addresing the media in Malyalam at the Kozhikode airport in Kerala...

Tharoor's remarks later caused a controversy after CPI(M) leader and former MLA M Swaraj alleged that some of Tharoor's remarks were pro-Israel, and the Congress MP failed to admit that Israel was a "terrorist nation"...

Taking a dig at Tharoor, Swaraj, a state secretariat member of the CPI(M), said what he had done was an "Israel solidarity meeting at the expense of the IUML"...
