Tata, Mahindra, Adani or Reliance? Which group could be a big trade in next 3-5 years?

Sandip Sabharwal, asksandipsabharwal.com, says all the large group stocks have already done quite well..

The main thing is that if the economy can sustain 7-8% growth over the next few years, my guess is many companies and many groups will continue to do well...

Sandip Sabharwal: Yes, it is possible because there is scope of profitability improvement in at least two of its businesses, the retail side, as well as the telecom side and the lack of aggression on the telecom side which they have recently shown, they have not hiked priced but they are not trying to compete on tariffs, that has created positive momentum both for what could potentially happen for Jio on the telecom side as well as Bharti Airtel...

Bharti as a stock, once it started its improvement cycle, is continuing now and it will keep on continuing and typically, as profitability improves, stocks tend to keep on doing well..

Sandip Sabharwal: I would tend to agree with that because the run-up has been across the board in companies which are doing well, companies which are not doing well, and companies which are supposed to do well but have not done well till now..

“What happens in all these financial companies is that when they raise money at a higher book value, then on price to book, they start looking cheaper, that is what happened with Bajaj Finance and it rallied and Chola is doing the same thing. So, many of these companies are just taking advantage of the very high price to book they are getting to raise capital.”

Nifty IT index stocks: Is the bad news built in prices? First bell for contrarian investors

28, Dec, 23

One of the basic principles of figuring out whether the stock prices have bottomed out or have topped out is how they react to the negative and positive news. Now let's use the same thing on Infy, two bad news in quick succession, first the resignation of the CFO and then more than a billion US dollars getting canceled. Let's look at what happened when both the news came. The resignation news came post the market hours and the Infy ADR and initial sharp cut, but then recovered. Next day the infy stock hardly lost any weight. On Tuesday, news of cancellation of a sizable contract came, the impact, just 1.2 % cut in stock price. Now compare with a time when a marginal miss in quarterly numbers lead to a cut of more than 5% in stock price and wipes out billions of dollars in market cap. So, while it might be a bit early, surely early signs cannot be ignored.
