However, in 2019, when Nitish went back to the NDA fold and contested the elections with the BJP, he won 16 Lok Sabha seats and his party's vote share increased to 22.26%..

The story was similar in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, when the JD(U) contested with the BJP and won 20 seats with a vote share of 24.04%.. Clearly, this factor must have weighed heavily on Nitish Kumar's mind as he walked out of the INDIA bloc to join hands with the BJP again ahead of the Lok Sabha polls..
