The website of the central government-run Pondicherry University has allegedly been attacked by a group of Indian hackers for "insulting Ramayana" and "making fun" of Lord Ram during a play staged on the campus last week...

They claimed to have thrown the official website out of service in a suspected DDoS (distributed denial of service) attack and have vowed to remove the institutions page from Wikipedia, the popular online encyclopedia...

The site remained inaccessible till at least 2:20 pm and displayed messages like ERR_CONNECTION_CLOSED and site is under maintenance indicating that its control could have been regained by authorities by then.. Check-host.net, a tool popular among cybersecurity professionals for checking the availability of websites, servers, hosts and IP addresses, showed the website was inaccessible for users across the world in checks performed by India Todays Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) team...

However, university PRO Dr Nanda Kishor denied any cyberattack in a phone call with India Today and attributed the outage to a plugin issue from our side which, he said, has been fixed now...
