When new airline Akasa celebrated its first birth anniversary in August last year, it landed into trouble with 43 of its pilots quitting, leading to cancellation of flights and consequent loss of market share too..

While India's aviation sector is growing, more and more people are flying, airlines are adding more aircraft and airports are being built even in far corners, flyers are complaining about delays, cancellations, low quality of service and fares jumping to new highs...

As many as 35% had issues with boarding and check-in procedures and baggage handling; 30% indicated poor aircraft interiors including seats, entertainment systems; 17% had issues with airlines not timely sharing information; 17% have been hassled by flight delays; 9% had issues with airline staff behaviour inside the flight and at the airport; and 9% indicated unidentified other issues..

Of the total domestic passenger traffic, no-frills carrier IndiGo flew 9.19 crore with a market share of 60.5 per cent, followed by full-service carrier Air India, which transported 1.47 domestic passengers and commanded 9.7 per cent market share..

Another full-service carrier Vistara, which is a joint venture between Air India and Singapore airlines had a 9.1 market share in 2023 with 1.38-crore passengers while Tata Group subsidiary airline AIX connect flew 1.08 crore passengers with a market share of 7.2 per cent, according to data..
