The policy, aimed at inviting the likes of Tesla to start manufacturing in India, has kickstarted a debate in India on whether it will harm Indian players, especially Tata Motors, which is currently leading the electric car race...

However, most agree that the Indian EV policy will help in the Indianisation of premium vehicles - an area where Tata Motors is yet to expand...

TaMo has big plans to electrify its existing premium models as well and is reportedly will launch the EV version of the Harrier as well.. Interestingly, Tata Motors had earlier advised the government not to lower import duties on EVs..

The report said that in the "next few years, every third electric vehicle and many passenger and commercial vehicles on Indian roads could be those made by Chinese firms in India alone or through a joint venture with Indian firms"...
