Assembly elections were held in Madhya Pradesh on November 17 to elect all 230 members of the legislative. The votes will be counted and the results will be declared on December 3. The BJP is battling anti-incumbency, infighting, and voter fatigue against the state leadership of more than 17 years. After winning three consecutive polls in 2003, 2008 and 2013, the BJP lost to the Congress in 2018 but managed to come back to power after the Kamal Nath-led government collapsed in March 2020. The 2018 election had led to a hung assembly, with the Congress emerging as the single largest party and the BJP winning the popular vote. The Congress eventually formed the government, with Kamal Nath becoming the chief minister. However, in March 2020, 22 Congress MLAs resigned from the assembly, and defected to the BJP along with Jyotiraditya Scindia, resulting in the collapse of the state government and resignation by CM Kamal Nath.
