Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) is mulling over the introduction of systematic investment plans (SIPs) for as low as Rs 250 for investments in mutual funds..

On Friday, Sebi chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch said the capital markets regulator wishes to sachetise mutual fund investments and bring SIPs down from the current Rs 500, going forward...

Buch, who was speaking at an event hosted by Business Today, said that the mutual fund industry feels investments of Rs 500 per month in a systematic investment plan are viable and not Rs 250...

She attributed the exodus of foreign money from the Indian markets to the hardening of rates in the developed markets while reiterating that India was not as much impacted as other emerging markets because the domestic investors held the markets and even forced the foreign investors to come back because of the yields the market was offering...
