Afzal Ansari, a parliamentarian from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, has been disqualified from Lok Sabha after being sentenced to four years in prison in a 2007 criminal case. The judgment was also against his brother, Mukhtar Ansari, who has been sentenced to ten years in prison, and they have been fined Rs 6 lakh ($8,000) by the court. The Ansari brothers were booked under the UP Gangsters Act in 2007, two years after alledgedly orchestrating the murder of former BJP legislator Krishnanand Rai.
